Congratulations to the 10 KWRMCC members who gave up their time to complete an ADVANCED level of FA training.
What an awesome day of learning it was! So intense… so much to learn and take on board … but made all the better to learn (by the atmosphere of fun) to remember the learnings provided by our leader / instructor Rachelle Pettifer. Thanks Rachelle.
Rachell is a nurse / paramedic and also the CEO of ‘Event Medical Team’, who provides event medical for motorsport. As such, she is not only very qualified / experienced to provide the usual FA training, but adds an additional for motorcycling, which is so beneficial for our sport!
Prior to the classroom learning, each participant was required to do an on-line learning course which ‘took a wee while’ but it is well worth the time (thanks all for doing that). This is a part of the pre-requisite learning to pass the course. Whilst it takes a while to do … it is valuable learning… and provides a great insight to the full day of learning to come.
NOW is a good time to thank the staff of the ‘Cardinia Connect team’ who assisted with the booking of the venue, and who were soooooo very helpful with all the follow up question phone calls to ensure all went well on the day. People complain all too readily about council, but seriously… thanks to all … you were brilliant!!!
The practicum sessions were ‘so value added’, with Rachelle demonstrating such things as the applications of slings (yup … there is more than one for different injuries) and such things as to how/when to safely remove a helmet … how to safely roll a suspected spinal injury patient … and soooo much more. It was a very ‘full on day’ … and we can’t thank Rachelle and the KWRMCC Volunteers enough for the day and their time spent.
OF NOTE: On any RPA Track Sunday… we have NEVER had less than FOUR FA trained personnel in attendance… such is the Club focus on safety & FA.
NOW … with the latest group trained on this course, this will mean that we will potentially have FA persons not only at the track, but on trail and other rides as available .
- Rachelle demonstrating but one sling method… yes there are more!
It was also Kelly’s birthday…
Kelly is or lead first aider who attends almost every Track Sunday opening (well that is when he is not OS coaching the ladies Australian Roller hockey team.. he arrived back from Korea on the day before training!)… annnd ….FYI… Kelly has no kids riding at the track!
The Club is so fortunate to have a core group of volunteers who are passionate about the sport (AND who do not have kids riding at the track). They simply want to promote/ pass on the passion/ the joy of riding to the young ones (and some oldies new to and those renewing the passion) to our community. A HUGE thankyou to them… they give up every second Sunday to make this happen..
THIS IS NOT A SMALL THING for them to do! … For that we as a community are MOST thankful
A HUGE SHOUT OUT TO ALL KWRMCC VOLUNTEERS / MEMBERS WHO MAKE OUR CLUB WHAT IT IS….. FAMILY / PEOPLE / RIDER FRIENDLY!!!!!! THANKYOU!
